JBC Miller Birthday Party

Caleb was born 4 days before his due date. That means his birthday is 4 days before his dad's birthday, which is 9 days before his mom's. The Miller family has all three birthdays within 13 days. It's a busy two weeks! Of course Caleb turning one is a much bigger deal than 33 or 28, we had a party all together.

Caleb was lovingly called Rooster by Daddy because whenever Caleb woke up he had hair sticking straight up on whichever side he slept on. It looked just like the crest on a rooster's head. So thinking of his nickname I thought it would be fun to do a rooster theme to his cakes. A very generous friend who has made adorable cakes for her children, donated her time and supplies to teach me the cake frosting technique. It was a skill completely foreign to me. We had a great time talking, teaching, learning, and licking (just a few times). We made some really cute cupcakes first.

Then it was time to figure out how to do the larger cake. My friend uses cookie cutters as tracers to press into the frosting and then trace the lines. What a great idea! And it worked perfectly because I had bought my Grandma Norma Monson's cookie cutters at her auction. There were several roosters in the set. It nearly brought tears to my eyes as I remembered my grandma and her collection of roosters. And so, a completely unique cake was designed.

And finally we made cake pops! They were just fun and cute!

So the cake was ready and snacks were purchased and prepared. It was time to party. Caleb had several family members over and his friend Aaron (who just had his 1st birthday in March). Caleb also met his cousin Lincoln for the first time! Caleb had a great time and loves all his new toys. He's been having fun inspecting each of them! See the montage of fun below!
